Today is Mother’s Day here in Costa Rica. It seems more emphasis is placed on it here than in the US. The church celebrated it this past weekend, some schools in the various neighborhoods have held their individual parties and presentations, and even strangers have wished me “Happy Mother’s Day” on the street (How do they know I’m a mom?). Even retail seems more geared to the holiday than in the States.
Every year, in honor of Mother’s Day, the country pardons several women that have been incarcerated for different crimes. They must meet a set of criteria such as good behavior, a support system on the outside, and a prospective future that may prevent them from further trouble .
Yes, I know God is pleased when we live righteously. He also wants us to lift others in prayer concerning their wrongdoing (James 5:16). But even when we blow it, feel all alone, and have no hope, I’m glad He is there.
Happy Mother’s Day!
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV
