Waiting Expectantly

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you got what you wanted for Christmas this year, and much more. Here in Costa Rica, someone is still waiting and hoping for their perfect gift. It’s Spicy, the dog. Her gift–the iguana that has been a source of exceeding torment. But the best things are worth waiting for, true?

"I know you're up there!"

God’s people were waiting with a similar expectancy for the coming of the Messiah. They were looking for the answers to life’s difficult circumstances. In Luke 3, some soldiers came to John the Baptist for answers. The Scripture says, “The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Christ.” John encouraged the people and shared the good news of the One who was to come.

Spicy doesn’t have too hard of a life. But most of her waking hours are spent looking for the iguana to appear. Sometimes I think she wastes too much time. She could be doing many other profitable activities. Bone chewing, digging, butterfly catching come to mind. Waiting and yearning isn’t that bad, but it’s starting to affect her productivity. But I know the day is coming, and hopefully soon, Spicy will receive her reward.

We should all be waiting and yearning for Christ’s Second Appearing. The day is coming. Sometimes I’m yearning intensely; and other times I get so busy with life’s events I forget about the greatness to come. How’s your productivity? The day is coming, what rewards will you receive?

Joy to the world! the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
